This is the Elite ethos which means that we do not deliver a quantity of irrelevant courses – we deliver the most relevant courses for the current market that will insure you can give the best instruction to your future clients.

How long has Elite been educating fitness professionals?

We have been the top fitness professional educators in Ireland since April 2011.

Have you recently changed your name?

Yes. Until 2013, we were educating people as the Leisure Industry Academy, Dublin. We have recently relaunched as Elite Fitness & Performance Academy, so we can deliver the highest standard of fitness & performance training courses we have been renowned for since 2011.

Who are your instructors?

Our instructors are full time fitness professionals who not only instruct at Elite, but spend the rest of their time running their own gyms, coaching practices or seminars. They are the top fitness professionals in the country and you can find a full list of who will be teaching you here.

What is REPs?

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) is the accrediting body for all exercise professionals and have one register for employers to be able to verify your qualification. REPs verifies the quality of training delivered by different training providers and states if they adhere to EHFA (European Health and Fitness Association) standards. It also verifies qualifications of exercise professionals and will confirm  that they completed a REPs accredited course.

Where is it recognized?

Elite Fitness & Performance Academy courses are recognized in the EU, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and UAE. REPS Ireland is aligned to the European Qualification Framework and  REPS Ireland is a part of the ICREPS organisation that connects exercise professional registers in UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and UAE.

The certificates for our short continuing education courses have CPD points assigned to them, and as such, you can also register them on the REPs website.

If you travel to work in another country, you can apply to register in the REPs organisation of that country by enquiring to REPs Ireland on reps@ilam.ie. They will guide you through a transfer to another country’s register.

What is a CPD?

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work, beyond any initial training. It’s a record of what you experience, learn and then apply. The term is generally used to mean a physical folder or portfolio documenting your development as a professional and  is the means by which people maintain their knowledge and skills related to their professional lives.

The CPD accreditation on our courses show that you have continued with a line of study beyond your initial study to meet the guidelines outlined by a certain body.

How long do the courses take?

Gym Instructors course – 2 weeks full time, Monday to Friday 9:00 -16:00

Personal Trainer – 4 weeks full time, Monday to Friday 9:00 -16:00 (Requirement: Gym Instruction certificate)

CPDs – 2 days 9:00 -16:00

Do I need previous experience?

If you are starting a new career, the first course you will need is the Gym Instructor course; this will give you the foundation needed for the fitness industry. No previous experience is required. However physical fitness is required and training experience will be beneficial.

All of our courses require physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved, and candidates should have basic skills in communication.

What happens if I fail exams?

  • If you fail a theory exam you can repeat it 1-2 times depending on the module. A fee of €35 applies. If you fail all attempts you will need to resit the whole module again on the next available course. This must be done within 2 months
  • If you fail a practical exam you can repeat it twice. A fee of €100 applies.
  • All repeat exams need to be scheduled with the Course Coordinator. Payment must be made before the repeat exam date.

What's the success rate?

80 – 85%. Everything you need to pass the course will be delivered and if you follow instructions given by the tutors, there shouldn’t be any reasons for you not to pass. You will be at a higher risk of failing the modules if you do not do the homework and readings required. If you are serious about becoming fitness professional you will not only be able to manage the course workload but will learn enough to start your new career.

Can I do courses part time?

No, at the minute we only offer full time courses.

What do I need to wear?

We would advise that all learners are dressed in exercise clothing for the duration of the course i.e. loose, comfortable clothing for all short practical based courses. When it comes to exercises, students should be dressed in appropriate clothing, training gear, shorts and t-shirts.

What do I need to bring?

  • A pen/pencil and notebook. Your manual will be supplied on the day. Some people complain they do not know how to structure classes after their training has been delivered and these people are the same ones who come without pen or notebook and don’t take notes.
  • There will be a lot of material covered on courses that will require complete concentration and effort to gain the most from the course, so you will need to take plenty of notes to look back on!
  • Surgical/hockey tape (only for Kettlebell Courses): This is to protect your hands from minor tears or abrasions.  This can be bought in any chemist for a few euros so please purchase and bring this small but very useful piece of equipment.  It will save your hands after two days of lifting.
